Knighty and FF, the truth is that not a single form of government has been successful over the long term.

i believe this is because of a fatal flaw in "humanity." those that get power, regardless of the system, care more for themselves than they do about anyone else and manipulate their power to feather their own nest.

sometimes this is at gun point. sometimes this is doing what is good for a lobbyist instead of the country in order to make money from the lobbyist and get help being re-elected.

that jesus guy was pretty smart because he realized riding a donkey what so few realize today riding in airplanes - that failing to care for others equal to oneself is an eventual death sentence.

america is dying and the powerful feathering their nest at the expense of their shareholders, their customers and the general public (failing to care about others equal to themselves) is what killed it.

some could argue that america was never really "alive" as it treated so many people so poorly - and they have a great point. having said that, the root cause is the same.

"i'm gonna get mine, good luck with trying to get yours... 'cause i don't much care."

there are exceptions, but they are so few as to prove the rule.
