With all the evidence to the contrary

You haven't provided a drop of evidence to the contrary. All the evidence supports the fact that the playing field is generally tilted against the rich. They succeed anyway, (by definition, if they didn't they wouldn't be rich), but having more success doesn't mean the field was titled in you favor.

Some people are going to be more successful than others no matter how you tilt or don't tilt the field.

you continue to feel sorry for the wealthy.

Sorry for them? No, things are generally ok for them, compared to the non-wealthy. But you don't have to feel sorry for someone in order to want to avoid committing injustices against them, esp. if doing so harms society in general not just the specific wealthy people your going after.
