Or he'll go in to drama and become a liberal. I don't know any conservative drama kids. I've always said my daughter should have been a Mormon- except for the God thing. She's very very judgmental about what other people should do, so she could fit in to church nicely- since they never do very well with the "cast not the first stone" thingy. I don't care what she believes as long as she's happy.

It was kind of awkward the other night at the Ian McEwan talk. I heard the end of a McEwan talk in NYC at a New Yorker conference a year or so ago. I arrived a little early to hear David Remnick and Seymour Hersh. McEwan was concluding. So I stood near the rear. I was fascinated. Huge applause at the end. So I decided to take a look at his work. Again. Could never connect. Still can't connect. I have the same problem with Toni Morrison. Many of my friends connect to each, different ones of course, but just sort of lose touch.
