I had two great play going experiences in the early 60's. The first was off-Broadway where I saw "Three Penny Opera". I was totally stunned by the complexity of the music and the staging. A year later I saw Joseph Weissman star in 6 Characters in Search of an Author by Pirandello at UCLA. It was another breathtaking experience. A sequel to the Brecht/Weill play was seeing Ute Lemper at the Carlyle Hotel in 2007 during the great snowstorm, which resulted in the Manager of the club giving us front row seats because very few showed up for the performance. She was singing the Brecht/Weill song book and she was truly magnificent. This is one of the songs she sang.
