This is a mind boggling stupid statement. Nobody will stay on unemployment at some small fraction of what they can make if employed. No one.

But you are wrong.

A married person with a kid today can make 28K on unemployment. In a depression, his job opportunities may be limited, and in fact, perhaps he could take a job at McDonald's making $10/hour ($20,800/y). Is he going to do that? Hell no.

Unemployment benefits are at their WORST when unemployment is at its highest, because people who could take lesser jobs are discouraged from doing so because they can actually make MORE money by watching Oprah.

Furthermore, he might well have to give up other government benefits if he gets off Unemployment and takes a real job since unemployment benefits are exempted from means-testing in many such programs.

Man, I'm tired of proving you wrong.
