Of course it's just a judgment call... what rhetoric to use.

But I believe it's also important to remember that the "Great Depression" was not an 'average' depression: it was the GREATEST one.

As such, it *far exceeded* the average 'economic depression' in it's ravages.

As such, we should probably NOT require that EVERY 'depression' be as 'bad' as the "Great Depression". <shudder>

NOTE: before what we now call the "Great Depression" we had an earlier period of economic depression that we called (at the time) "the Great Depression".

It was from about 1873 to 1896.

When the depression of the 'twenties and 'thirties came along (& was even worse then the earlier "Great Depression") we had to rename the earlier one... and we now call it the "Long Depression".

So, I expect that history will most likely consider this current sad epoch to be a "global economic depression" whether it ever actually matches the magnitude of the GREATEST Depression or (most likely) does not.
