We tried that already. Remember Goldman-Sachs? The problem is that it isn't just these institutions. It is the fact that they are all tied together in unknown ways. Chances are pretty good that AIG, Citi or BOA can bring down the global economy. How good of a chance? No way to know. The shadow banking system is unregulated, huge and totally opaque.
