Some people will always do dopey things. Some will vote to devalue their citizenships no doubt. But they do that anyway and even more enthusiastically when they don't even have a measure of their value.

<Like houses are more valued, you mean.>

As Alan Green$pan said, he was shocked to find that lenders did not consider their risk of losing their money which led to the mortgage catastrophe. He assumed that risk avoidance would prevent the catastrophe which has happened.

I would not be shocked to find some country's citizens voting for really stupid things which turns their country into low value. But during the process, those opposing the ideas could at least sell and abandon ship as millions have done from New Zealand over the decades [though they were not able to sell - they just had to abandon their share of assets and move elsewhere, mostly Australia where they are second class citizens at best].
