Brumar, you ignore the fact that the rich and powerful have always controlled the levers of government to enrich themselves further. It has been the way of the world since the dawn of humanity. What makes the US different is that we achieved a balance between that fact and ensuring that the other 99% had enough access to the levers of power to ensure they also had a chance to achieve wealth and power in their own lifetimes.

The promise of the US is kept safe only insofar as we successfully continue to guard that balance of power. Said another way, if the rich and powerful use their power to influence the government so unfairly as to distort the free market, then the free market isn't really free. In many respects, that is exactly what happened over the last 8 years and even beyond. The rich were able to distort our regulations such that an economic collapse is now upon us. The free market was not allowed to work.

It is time to restore balance, so the free market can work. Unfortunately for you and the GOP, we cannot allow the rich to call all the shots. That would simply perpetuate the policies that got us here in the first place, which would destroy the American Dream.
