Tim;

'll take an example of energy independence. I think that's a bad goal. For one thing its unrealistic, even if it would be a good thing, the effort will fail. For another moving in that direction increases costs and decreases efficiency.

If you think that energy independence is a bad goal, then you are saying energy dependence on ME countries is a good goal. Okay, If that is really how you feel then I can't argue that. You think energy independence is a bad goal, I think it is a good goal. That is nothing more than an opinion on each of our parts.

Then you say;

For another moving in that direction increases costs and decreases efficiency

That too is an opinion. You are entitled to your opinion, and an opinion is unarguable - but that is most definitely not a fact. If the environmental cost are figured in and the cost of the war and the health related cost are all added in, then in fact making ME enemies of ours rich may NOT be "increasing costs and efficiency. That is my opinion - just differences of opinion.

But to then hope that your opinion is right and my opinion is wrong so that Obama fails is to be hopelessly lost in ideology.

<<<I want him to fail to get most (but not all) of his policies put in place. Sometimes its because even though I agree with the goal, I think the actual policies will be work against the goal, sometimes because I think the goal isn't a good goal.>>>

You say all this with a great deal of confidence and finality. But based on what you have been writing for the past eight years unabashedly and adamently cheerleading and advocating Bush policies, your current opinions imo are highly questionable.

Unless you can somehow explain why your previous opinions wrt why Bush policies went tragically off course, your current opinions are imo highly questionable.
