I'm not sure what kinds of applications require any improvement in Hoare's original algorithm. Rocket science, I suppose. For anything I ever did plain old quicksort was totally adequate.

I guess it is of interest in theoretical debates, but I'm so far removed from the subject of algorithms at this point it hardly matters.

Having slogged my way through Knuth's first three volumes years ago, I have no plans to attempt volume 4. Just too old.
