I don't expect there will be any "grand deals" although there is likely to be TALK about grand deals.

If the US will have to leave Afghanistan, it does have the option to leave the Taliban in a stronger position. Something that Russia and Iran both don't want.

If the US can talk to enough players, to some degree it can create a "prisoner's dilema" where the first to cut a deal gets the best deal.

The Obama administration tends toward incrementalism.

I expect there will be a few small agreements, which will be over hyped for domestic consumption.
