Re: "No, I'm sorry, but you don't really have confidence in that policy or you would not have said "anyway," you said "it's worth trying anyway,"... your real underlying message is that you really don't believe it would work but we may as well "try it anyway.," after all it couldn't hurt to try anything so let's try this next anyway..."

GZ... either you *just don't get nuance* at ALL... or else your mind-reading skills are seriously over-rated.

You are just flat wrong about what I said, and there is no reason to try to put words in my mouth that I did not say or mean.

HINT: there ARE NO SECRET MEANINGS IN MY WORDS!

(Just plain and simple and direct statements....)

What I said (& what I MEAN):

Although I do not ascribe high odds to it's chances of 'direct' success, I believe that it is *well worth the attempt*.

If, for no other reason, then that *politically* it could help us out a great deal inside Pakistan.

So, the mere attempt at peeling-off tribal elders from the more hard-core Sunni religious fundamentalists (& their foreign allies) could pay dividends for American goals --- even if indirectly.

(It worked reasonably well in Iraq, peeling off Sunni tribal elders and nationalists and former Baathists from the more radical Sunni fundamentalists... and I see no reason why a similar policy could not be tailored for the Sunni Pastun tribal chiefs and attempted there --- ESPECIALLY SINCE the *exact same General Petraeus who rolled out the policy in Iraq is in charge of the Pakistan/Afghanistan sector now!)
