In the conference call they were very vague about the alliance. There will be new projects that they will work on together. Canadian Marconi has the experience in achieving the high levels of certification necessary for airborne applications. Novatel has a technology edge but needs some muscle to penetrate those markets.

I wouldn't be surprised if Marconi took a stake in Novatel, but I don't know if they would buy them out altogether. According to an analyst during the conference call, Canadian Marconi has a lot of cash on their hands. Novatel refused to comment.

There is definitely potential for a takeover here, but apparently the market doesn't think so since the stock was weak after the announcement.
