We disagree.

Both Eisenhower and Grant decided the best way to win the war was to systematically destroy the economy and infrastructure of the economy of their enemies.

Grant was not an advocate of pitched battle. More like siege warfare.

In fact Patton was more like Sherman in driving a spear into enemy territory but even here Sherman's goal was to destroy the will of the South by destroying their economy and infrastructure mainly the rail roads, hence the term "Sherman Bowties."
