No, actually I don't find it astonishing. We have only two major political parties in this country, so finding that many of the people who run big companies belong to one of them is not a big surprise. Many other people who run big companies belong to the other one.

About the "Democrat party" thing. Yes, if you read things written by certain conservatives, you will hear it referred to that way. I don't think the Times uses that construction officially, though you might see if when they are quoting people like George W. Bush.

I don't consider it an epitaph, either. I don't even consider it an epithet. It's just incorrect.
