No they where not.

Come on... you get my point. Yeah if we get to a bottom of suffering equal to, say, the great depression then certainly the "long term growth and improvement" will be a bit better on the way back up. But most people would prefer to get a cold than pneumonia, even though the recovery from pneumonia would be a better "long term improvement".
