You know, Eric. I have an MBA. I've lived and breathed the beauty of business and free markets in this country my entire life and I'm a dedicated free marketeer and fiscal conservative.

However, one thing I've learned is that the markets are not always free in this country and the markets don't always work. Sometimes they break and government intervention is necessary. For free marketeers like me, these times of wrenching change when the markets need to be fixed are horribly painful, not just financially, but ideologically. They tear at the core of our beliefs. Thus the cries of socialism and the wholesale denials of impropriety by the rich and powerful that we see from folks like Brumar. I understand the motivations behind folks with that attitude, despite my belief that they are blind to the facts on the ground.

At the end of the day, I'm more interested in solutions and that means identifying the problems, even if they expose some of the lies we've been bred to believe. That includes the idea that greed is always good, that trickle down always works, and that somehow we all benefit as the rich get richer. Those are all a bill of goods we were sold. Now that we have the evidence that those are myths, we need to adjust and make sure we don't lose the best of free market dynamics along the way. What's interesting and unique about this country is that we shackle ourselves with ideas. And to make real progress we have to move beyond our self-made constraints.
