Hey here is a little post from Ms. Geode00 and how she plays with her boys. Well what I do when really playing imaginative games with my sons is of course 'imitate them' but also I let them know I remain a girl/female and although I'll play with them it'll be as me. For example: They are building a pile of toy roads and plastic figures and toy cars. Fav thing is to crash it all at the end. (I tease them about this being their 'guy way' of ending their games.) So I take 2 cars and have them talk to each other. My way of being slightly female yet playing with them. And I have one special toy car which is a glittery limo-with pink sparkles. Told em it was MY car. I call it the "cha cha cha" car. The cha-cha-cha car is driven by me and it's a girl. So play around with that. Of course it chases after their cars, drives on their roads, and then the cha-cha-cha car parks it for the day as they blast up their game by it all crashing. Or sometimes I'll put on a fake 'guy voice' and pretend to be one. They laugh their heads off at this. Or I'll take stuffed animals and make them talk...all about boys stuff, etc. Basically this is taking my knowledge of dolls (my own childhood) and adapting it to boy-friendly ways. And at the same time it encourages imagination and playfullness and caring in my boys. Never read about this in a book...just did it. The thing is you need to balance your boy's natural male ways with nurturing, caring, and helping them learn about girls. (In our case they didn't have cousins who were girls...or aunts...to learn much other than from me, what females are about.) Remember we are educating our boys to be future mates for girls/women and hopefully to respect and love women throughout their whole lives! We are playing a huge role-model in their lives, including their playing (see, aren't we amazing!??) Sincerely, R
