All: I recently dated a girl from China. She was a Telecom Engineer
their. It was stamped on her passport. Those people have alot more money than you may think. They get paid well, free uniforms...they where them and at times they buy them homes. Many PCs are going their and many more to come. It would be like waking up and seeing your first Commodore 64!...remember that?

Darrell -

Here's the part where I have to talk thru both sides of
my mouth. Not - to argue, not to win a point, but because
it is what - sort of - put cold water on my face this morning.

We can't have it both ways. If the PC vendors are talking
(in my words) high volumes for low cost PC's world-wide,
then this- to some extent - plays into and supports
the arguments of Mr. F.

That being:

Unit volume is rising
But $Rev per box is falling - i.e. cheaper type boxes.
Resulting in a slower seq. period over seq. period growth
in PC Rev $

If this is true, the current market valuation of some mfg's may
be adjusted downward. In addition, what does this bode
for the likes of Intel and their 300 and upcoming 400/450 MHz
type chips in terms of their future demand.

Now, what concerns me about this is, if certain companies
fall somewhat, what does it due to the rest of us BOTH from
a stock market point of view (stk prices), as well as an
ongoing demand for products (suppliers who make widgets).

The real part of the EQUATION that puzzles me is that Makin
never expressed any thoughts about DEMAND for goods/services
in China.

Secondly, to get back to this low cost PC demand thing,
in my experience i.e. everyone I know, once we got used
to PC's we ALWAYS wanted FASTER PC'S. And I say this without
any qualifications.

If we are currently in a low cost PC phase to the rest of
the world, then, I would guess, that some of the users
are going to WANT faster boxes at some point.

Well, I am rambling so I will quit while I am behind.

Regards,

John McCarthy
