I don't think anyone is bankrupting AIG because there is the false assumption in Wash and NY that only these 'really smart' people who ran these companies into the ground can reconstruct them.

Baloney.

Banking isn't that difficult and shouldn't be that difficult. Lehman might have made the gamblers rethink their assumption that the US government would always protect them from their own bad behavior but the Lehman unwinding wasn't that big a deal. Now the assumption will be that it is business as usual for the financial system because even bonuses are going to be protected even when they aren't deserved.

Baloney.

Doesn't anyone at Treasury remember moral hazard? Last week the banks blithely told us that they were going to be profitable this year. Did any of them say how they were going to be profitable if they owe us billions? Will they be paying out bonuses for that fake profitability?
