Clearly this should be done. In fact I am shocked that a person can run for president, much less win election, without providing evidence that he meets the qualifications of office.

Frankly, it amazes me. I just commented in PM to someone that back in the 1980s I took a job with the Feds in DC. It was a non-security clearance position, yet I had to undergo a full FBI background check that included interviews of co-workers, friends and former employers. I find it astounding that a candidate for a GS-11 non-security clearance position goes through this kind of vetting and yet someone can be elected and sworn in as President of the United States, with all the access to highly classified information as that entails, and not have to establish that he meets the minimal constitutional prerequisites for the position.
