hello desert dweller, i am well aware of the wastrelism in china, now, historically speaking, in relative decline, but naturally ever present, for, after all is said and not whispered, did invent atleast four very handy devices, processes, things, and concepts, namely:

- paper
- ink
- printing press
- paper money

and probably deposit-taking institutions

giving organic rise to wastrelism.

and that is why i recommend gold, as all the world seems to be marching the japanese way towards zimbabwe to eventually pay homage to argentina.

as to "China has lost tens of billions of dollars of its foreign exchange reserves through a poorly timed diversification into global equities just before world markets collapsed last year"

believe me that i am convinced that the sums involved, even if in the tens of billions, are inconsequential, especially when there is so much bargain shopping still to be down at 50, 60, 70, and 89% below peak pricing
