Excuse me, if they didn't make decisions like that, how do you justify them making millions plus millions or 10s of millions in bonuses?

We don't know if they're bonuses or sales commissions. We don't know if they are "performance" bonuses which are clearly unjustifiable, or whether they are contractual commitments that must be met.

If you're in the a business that involves the payment of commissions and you don't pay them, failure is assured.

Neither you nor I knows the details on this.

I would not disagree with Barney Frank on this one --

"These people may have a right to their bonuses. They don't have a right to their jobs forever," said Frank, a Massachusetts Democrat who is chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.

To the extent these are the people who destroyed the company and damaged the economy, they should go. But if you owe them money you owe them money. You can't just not pay them, by law.

Apparently, Frank wants to be able to control how much executives are paid -- even where no federal money is involved. If this is true, it is clearly far beyond any reasonable power for government to have.
