"I tend to believe that the cable/entertainment industry knows a lot more about putting up compelling content than the RBOCs."

I'm not sure I follow you here. What does cable industry have to do with content. Is the media the message? Do Direct TV and USSB provide cable content? Does Turner really care about which media is used?
Does the public really want the ROBOCs to be content providers?
In the cable industry who decides who/which channels are broadcasted? On the WWW who decides who broadcasts???

I tend to believe that the telecommunications industry knows a lot more about putting up high speed reliable two way networks than the cable/entertainment industry. Not to mention the building, maintaining
and managing of the networks.

Interesting enough they will and should be a player. However, I think we need to split the Cable/Entertainment Industry out. You have the Cable Industry, Entertainment Industry (not only reserved for TV,) Communications Industry, Software Industry and the Computer Industry.

With media convergance the counter re-action will be content. The likes of NBC, FOX, ESPN and Ted Turner will have their hands full competing with the rest of the Entertainment Industry. Those who can actually provide good content in a converged media will win and those who can not will lose. TV is losing market share to the WEB drastically. Ted Turner needs to keep up with the "Entertainment technology" not the media technology.
