L2S, I saw that piece on this past Sunday's "CBS Sunday Morning", and while the guy from the Economic Cycle Research Center showed that we're not near an official Depression based on current unemployment levels, the whole rest of the piece seemed to be about the paradox of thrift....and ended up in a chorus of "Buy, Baby, Buy" hectoring of the viewer. I received this week's Newsweek magazine yesterday. On the cover, an enormous Uncle Sam pointing at the reader. The caption: I WANT YOU to start spending Invest in America before it's too late! I'm beginning to see this kind of rhetoric locally as well.
