The risk exists. I'll grant you that. But the question isn't how do we prevent extremists from taking control of Saudi Arabia and threatening our oil supply. The real question is how do we become less reliant on oil so that we don't have to be dependent on the outcome of power struggles in inherently unstable areas of the world.

YOu are fighting the rearguard action that says lets defend the status quo. I want to fight on the offensive by starting with the assumption that it is inevitable that extremists will rule over oil. History tells us that countries whose economies depend on oil for wealth are prone to extremist, dictatorships in government. Look at Russia, Venezuela, Iran. Even Saudi Arabia is an extremist country. Just look at their repressive system of law and lack of other products in the economy.

So let's start with the assumption that where there is oil, there will be extremism. So let's wean ourselves off of oil, so we aren't destabilized by our need for oil from extreme countries.
