GM....good point....

Take, MU...they were going to build a huge FAB in Lehi, they put the walls up and were ready to go, when the bottom fell out of the DRAM industry. The DRAM business was so profitable that they could careless to fine tune their manufacturing process....the idea was just add capacity as fast as you can and don't waste much time fine tuning the process.

Well since then MU killed Lehi plant and has significantly curtailed alot of their spending on cap equipment and yet have more than doubled the bit output with pretty much the same equipment. They did this by shrinking the die and tuning the process to .3u with pretty much the same tools that they were using before....I'm sure they had to buy some new stuff but not nearly as much as a new fab.

In times of hardship people find ways to "milk" more out of what they have.
