AMAT was in
the same position that it is in right now, all that has changed is
more time has gone by and there are 2x the amount of stock available
now as then.

BB,

You said it all right here. My one complaint with many bearish posts is that they are posting them AFTER THE FACT. Now is the time to consider purchasing this baby, not sell it. If a stranger tripped onto this discussion and read one of DD's posts, he might be inclined to sell. That is exactly what the Big Boys would like too. I have a problem taking the "experts" too seriously, or seriously at all for that matter. They are the ones who drove these stocks to "no-brainer" levels in '96 and are doing it now too IMO. The skeptic in me says that they are doing this because they missed the boat last time and wanted to get on before the train left the station for good this time. I have seen many, many prdictions about how everyone is going to stop producing IC's. However, one thing I did not see in any downgrade was a shaving of EPS predictions. Why do you think this is so? Maybe they don't have enough confidence in their predictions? I have always thought they were a clueless bunch who lacked much imaginagtion. But if a downturn were really upon us, wouldn't you expect some lowering of EPS predictions? This recent trough of AMAT and the rest of the group smacks of panic, and IMO that is the single best indicator as to when to buy a stock.

regards,

Brian
