John, I am basing my MPU margin theory on INTC earnings....based on their earning...margins have gone down faster than normal....The basic reason for margins to go down is competition and lack of demand. We know that competition is causing some problems, but I also think that demand is slowing from the pace of the last two years. Asia is supposed to be the next big boom for PC sales growth, now that too is being questioned.

There is a site www.smithweb.com that provides weekly pricing for DRAM and MPU chips...take a look and check out the price declines...they seem to be faster than last year. Also, INTC keeps giving down guidance on margins.
