Double check the sources of your information.

Most likely the source of your information is some sort of law enforcement. Law enforcement has a vested interest in keeping this war running.

It's their paycheck.

You obviously dont think minimalization of pain has any value. Perhaps we should torture cancer patients just to see what it takes to break them since they are a class of folks who you say are for socialized medicine.
