I'd be happy if they simply stopped the AIG bailout at $180B. Before Nixon resigned, many people said "it would tear this country apart." Then after he finally did quit, everyone got up and went to work like any other day. 1974 was the worst recession since the Great Depression, but '75 and '76 were great years for the stock market. Let's cut our losses now and let AIG disintegrate. If it takes down Goldman and Citibank, that'll just be icing and good riddance.

No company in the history of mankind has gobbled up $170 billion of your money and flushed it down the drain like this.
