When the tourist luaus give the "oral history" of the islands, they conveniently forget to mention that when Captain Cook discovered this place, he was killed by the locals, and when his body was recovered, it had been partially eaten.

I suspect they ate his liver with some rice and a dish of fine poi. "Click, click click."


Then they proudly delivered up his bones to his ship. Picked clean after having been roasted in a stone oven.

Also missing from the "native" narrative was how brutal they were with their own. Step on the shadow of a noble would win you a quick death with a club to the head.
