PRODUCT RECALL - METAL PUSH-PIN BADGES
By HEALTH CANADA

Product Name
Metal push-pin badges

Full Product Description
Metal push-pins in the shape of a badge with a red Canadian flag and raised metal text "Canada JUNIOR CBSA-ASFC" with a blue background. The push-pin is approximately 28mm wide and 33mm long. These metal push-pin badges were given to children as part of a promotional initiative by the Canada Border Services Agency.

Hazard Identified
Sampling and testing by Health Canada revealed that the surface paint on the metal badges contains excessive levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Health Canada has not received reports of illness or injury to Canadians related to the use of these products. Because of the small surface area covered by the paint, the risk of lead exposure through swallowing or mouthing of the item is low.

For more information on the risks and symptoms of lead exposure, visit Health Canada's: It's Your Health: Effects of Lead on Human Health

Similar plastic badges were also distributed. The plastic badges were made in Canada and were purchased from a different supplier. These plastic badges are not part of this recall at this time. They will be tested by Health Canada for total lead levels.

Corrective Action
Consumers should take away the metal badge from children and dispose of it with regular regular household trash so that it cannot be reused.
