Being in the industry, I suppose you find it acceptable that we pay double for health care. That's your vested interest. Others have a different view.

Of course not. While I do work in the industry, like everyone else I would like for health care to be affordable for all.

We pay double because our nation has the best health care in the world.

It is misguided to think you can materially cut costs and still have the best health care system in the world. You can cut them a little -- "efficiency" gains as Lane put it -- but in reality, the cost is higher here for two reasons --

a) Our health care is on the "bleeding edge" of technology and anytime you're in that position your costs are going to be higher, and

b) We subsidize health care in other countries by funding most of the research. When you are talking about a body of medical knowledge that doubles in less than 10 years you're talking about a lot of money to make that happen. Most of it is spent here.

All we have to do is say, "We no longer want to be the best health care. We'll let Europe have that status for a while." Ban profits of drug companies, limit profits of providers and hospitals. And there you go. Overnight, we'll no longer have the best health care and it will all be cheaper.

This is, in effect, what this nitwit who is now running the country will do if he has his way.
