Are you talking about Geithner or Obama? Geithner was the only person available to take over for Paulson. There really were no other candidates who knew enough about what was going on.

As I have stated several times now, Obama had no choice at the time. If he hadn't appointed Geithner the system would have collapsed before another candidate could have gotten up to speed. Zimbabwe would be looking a lot better than it does to Americans today.

fwiw, Obama STILL has no choice, which is why he came out this weekend and said he would refuse to accept Geithner's resignation. THERE ARE NO OTHER QUALIFIED CANDIDATES AT THIS TIME. The people who want Geithner out are not giving any names to replace him because there aren't any.

I do NOT like Geithner but we are stuck with him for the time being.
