>>GTE delay<< Everything I hear is that GTE is scrambling to get this done. I don't see a delay in ADSL, I see a race and GTE is lining up there best thoroughbreds to kick some boody.
Were just seeing large company bottlenecks that take time to work out. IMHO

[GTE]

<<<I certainly don't know the reason...but I tend to think it's more of the above....why else would they need "sometime in '98" for a CLEC/ADSL announcment..? Once the dust settles on their future direction we should see something...and I'm guessing sooner rather than Q2 '98.>>>

I agree with your CLEC conclusions. Based on this being the reasoning behind Chuck's reticence, several questions come to mind. First, is GTE likely to install CO systems in their target markets while waiting for the MCI dust to settle? And second, what would prevent them from using their ILEC to roll out the same systems?

In light of the renewed cable and ISP threats, I can't believe they'll slow down their time schedules --- only their press plans.

I do know Amati finished another round of installations in Redmond last week and according to my sources got rave reviews from everyone who saw them in operation, including MSFT Sr. V.P., Craig Mundie.

As long as we're waiting for the C6X anyway, a press launch delay isn't a concern. If I've said it once I've said it a dozen times, the longer telcos delay, the better it is for DMT and Amati. Of course the other side of that coin is that it gives DMT competitors time to catch up. Motorola's put the kabosh on anyone counting on CG, but then there's Alcatel.

Ever feel as though you're watching the Kentucky Derby????

BTW, there's another player we've not mentioned for some time. Mad Bomber, where are you? Remember your research of about 2 or 3 months ago???? Back when we were figuring out who the second BCTEL winner was????? Perhaps it's time to do some more sleuthing. :))

Cheers!

Pat

[GTE Delay]
"..why else would they need "sometime in '98" for a CLEC/ADSL announcment.."

Bob, where did you see that GTE was combining CLEC/ADSL in one announcement which is now delayed... I also heard read about the delay of the Nov announcement but I have not read anywhere that GTE wsa infact going to talk about ADSL and now that announcement is delayed.
