>> SD, > Compare what Obama has inherited to what Bush inherited

Bush inherited a declared war on America which his predecessor had conveniently ignored for several years, allowing the enemy to infiltrate the country undetected in preparation for an attack bigger than Pearl Harbor.

I'd love to be proven wrong, though.

I somehow have trouble with this one...

That's true, but the past 16 years has been a tale of passing the buck, and I don't see Obama taking any steps to reverse the trend.

You can start with Obama's switch to more honest accounting. It's one reason his deficits are as big as they are: He's counting stuff that Bush kept off-budget.

The deception of counting the SS surpluses as revenue will work itself out: As the baby boomers retire, SS will no longer be running a surplus. I think that happens in about 10 years.

It took 8 years for Clinton to get the budget in order, to the point where Bush thought he was inheriting surpluses as far as the eye could see. And Clinton inherited a much better (though still bad) situation than what we have now.

It will take time, a return to growth, and economic grownups who don't think tax cuts are the solution to every problem, but we can and will get back to fiscal sanity.
