Excerpts from the trenches - TNT vs TC Hiper Part 1:

This seems insightful regarding TNT's competition and its known problems. This is taken from an Ascend user mail list:

USR's management software *good*???

No way. It's awful. It's slow (even on a grunty UNIX), sparse (ooo! look!
the lights blink on the picture just like the real thing) - you can't even
ask the box over SNMP who's logged in!!! And before someone says it,
reading the event table to figure it all out doesn't really count...

And what's worse - you've got to plug it in *twice* to manage it! Yep, you
have to give the box two ethernet cards/IP addresses, and ask different
questions of different cards.

The hypercard version (16/modems card instead of 4) is only slightly
better - you have to plug it in only three times. :(

As for modem connectivity, our testing shows it's considerably worse than
the Max. If you don't have a USR modem, don't expect a good connect speed.

The Max sure isn't perfect, and the TNT is worse. But that doesn't seem to
make other manufacturers angels...

People in the access server market are going to have to get their shit
together *real* fast...

TNT vs TC Hiper Part 2:

Dead right.

You have to reboot it to change just about anything - default gateways,
RADIUS servers, etc... All require you to reboot to make the changes take
effect.

I thought rebooting to recognise basic changes was the sort of thing that
went out with the ark. This thing ain't carrier class - barely enterprise,
in fact.
