It's all about the money. Not to mention the home runs.

I thought the MLB was experiencing a resurgence around the time Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's game streak in 1996 or 97, but then the steroid scandals broke out. Mr. Asterisk himself, Barry Bonds, was a big turn-off.

I'll tell you this, though. The WBC is fueling the Japan-Korea rivalry, and it's churning out some quality players now. Most of the Japanese players have MLB experience, but only one Korean player does because they're a real young team. Watch for more Koreans to enter the majors.
