I saw on some news program recently a piece about mortgage lending practices where people who were designated as, say, house cleaners were getting loans with a declared income of, say, $12K/month. The criminal fraud in mortgage origination was incredible. Those are the 'assets' people are trying to foist off on us? I suspect the 'investors' who appear to be quite interested in the Geithner plan are looking at better pools of assets. They aren't stupid. They are looking to make a killing by leveraging US taxpayer money. What the heck is going on.
