Ted, > Japan and Korea played each other last week. How come they played each other again last nite?

The WBC is still in its infancy. Japan and Korea started out in the same Round 1 bracket because of geography. But then they ended up in the same pool for Round 2, which is double-elimination. Then the finals saw them meeting one last time.

Some think it was set up that way to generate more revenue from Japanese and Korean audiences, who care the most about the WBC. I tend to agree; choosing the finals to be played in Los Angeles was no coincidence. A guy at the game last night held up a poster saying "World Baseball Classic," but with the word "World" crossed out and replaced with "Japan & Korea."

In any case, the idea is floating around to mix up the teams in either Round 1 or 2, or both.
