Laytonville man accused of 30-year-old Florida slaying
Posted:03/24/2009 6:58 PM

A Laytonville man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in a 30-year-old Florida case. Kenneth Paul Auringer, 60, was arrested without incident at his Laytonville mobile home Tuesday morning. He is being held without bail at Mendocino County Jail and awaiting an extradition hearing, Lt. Rusty Noe said. Auringer is suspected in the slaying of John Allaman, Jr., in Sarasota, Fla., who was found dead in his home in Oct. 1978. Allaman had been stabbed several times and his throat was cut, Noe said. DNA and fingerprint evidence at the crime scene did not yield any leads until the case was re-opened in 2008 and fingerprints were submitted to the national electronic fingerprint database. Auringer, who Noe said had an arrest record in Mendocino County, emerged as a suspect when the automated system came up with a fingerprint match. Auringer was served with a search warrant to collect a DNA sample and arrested Tuesday at the Laytonville Trailer Park.
