Veronique de Rugy
The Corner

In today's New York Times:

<<< Transatlantic tension over the handling of the global economic crisis intensified Wednesday when the prime minister of the Czech Republic, which holds the European Union presidency, described the President Obama’s stimulus measures as the “way to hell.”

Addressing the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek argued that the Obama administration’s fiscal package and financial bailout “will undermine the stability of the global financial market. >>>

Well said, Mr. Topolanek. Too bad, he had offered his government’s resignation over a no-confidence vote the day before. Read the whole thing here.

To me, this "Republican" plan is about six of one and half-a-dozen of the other compared to the Dem plan.

It's still just another way to transfer tax money (or tax credits, which are the same thing) to some particular group. Only the group may be slightly different, not the transfer of money.

Why not give me a tax credit for buying some shares of CAT or GM? How about a tax credit for spending money at Safeway or WalMart? If an investment is worth making, or an expense is worthwhile TO ME, I'll make the investment or the expense. I don't want the damn gov't deciding where my money goes, and I REALLY don't want the gov't spending MY tax dollars in a gift to someone who spends money on something I wouldn't spend the money on myself.

Uncle Sam, GET THE HELL OUT OF MY POCKET!!
