It's all politics. Until the majority of Americans favor marijuana legalization, the pols will generally support prohibition. He can't waste political capital on marijuana legalization. The time is not right. He probably feels differently than he stated publicly today, but why create a new controversy?

I do sense that the marijuana issue is thawing slowly. Almost everyone I know used it at one time or another and go on with life now just fine. But there's still a large percentage of the population that thinks marijuana is dangerous, and are totally misinformed. Alcohol is by far much more dangerous and anti-social than marijuana. You can't die from a marijuana overdose and it does not encourage agressive behavior like alcohol does, such as fighting. All things being equal, if a Martian landed on earth and had to decide which should be banned due to ill effects and dangerousness, alcohol would be the one to go. Too bad we aren't so intelligent.

Marijuana time will come. Remember when having a black President was unthinkable?

They asked the wrong ?; it was about legalizing to stimulate the economy. Probably wouldn't do that, so he answered it fine. The ? should have been "Will legalization help solve the border problem? Would it help the states raise revenues? Is the war on mary cost effective? Would legalization solve the problems of Mexican gangs taking over our national forests for plantations?" Something like that.

Feds raid S.F. medical marijuana dispensary

SAN FRANCISCO—A medical marijuana dispensary in San Francisco that gave out free marijuana to poor people is mostly empty after a raid by federal agents.
U.S Drug Enforcement Administration agents descended on Emmalyn's California Cannabis Clinic Wednesday afternoon.

Agents loaded up several pickup trucks parked outside as they carried out marijuana plants, grow lights and other equipment.

(No wonder they were busted).

Saying the specific reason for the raid is under court seal, the DEA would only say the dispensary is suspected of violating federal and state law.

Emmalyn's had been providing free marijuana to the poor on Wednesdays.

The dispensary had been operating with a temporary permit issued by the Department of Public Health.
