Our society is in a state of very rapid cultural and economic evolution. I understood Obama's comment about persistance, cold! When I took on writing our states emergency medical services plan, and alcoholism and drug abuse plan and coordinating the Valdez oil spill for H&SS and governors office, I had no idea what I would do. I persisted and figured them out. I learned a lot from those experiences. We have to think about our social problems, not make worn out pronoucements, define our social and economic problems by thinking hard about them, debating them. And then just start with page 1 and move on to page 2. But make sure both pages make sense, and what happens is quite quickly answers that make sense start to appear. E.g. the New England Journal of Medicene has been reporting study after study after study that shows the DARE program does not work. It doesn't work! So why in hell have we kept using it for the last 30 year for gods sake-lol? What we have desparately needed has been a high level intense intellectual social and economic honest diolgue. Bush and his crew ran from ideas. Hid in caves and dark corners. We had better knock that off, this anti intellectual behavior and start thinking, is what I think-lol.
