That is not universal, from what I've seen.

When my son was of the age that he wanted to work in Christmas tree farms he complained that the Hispanics were lazy and did a poor job.

But I've worked with tree planters and I like Hispanics. They work hard and don't complain.

There was a hippy group called the Hoedads that planted trees under contract. I didn't care for them much. They left a messy camp and the women went topless. They were also prone to lighting up whacky tabaccy.

Some of the white planters were bonafide crazy. One guy planted with no shirt on even if it was snowing. Didn't slow him down a bit. Another, I remember he was called "Talking Tom" because he never stopped talking to himself all day. Apparently he was well-educated, but nevertheless crazy.

We need some way to handle migrant workers. I don't think we should give them free social services and medical care, and they should go home when their job is done. But I have no objection to them working on jobs where they're well-suited.

James Michener did a pretty good job of describing the situation in his novel "Centennial." Other ethnic groups didn't work out as migrant workers for one reason or another. Asians, for example, squirreled away all their money and went into business for themselves, rendering themselves unavailable to the migrant work force.

We have several large dairy farms around here that have almost all hispanic workers. The town board was giving one of the owners a hard time and he said I pay 15 dollars and hour plus benefits. Send me your young and I'll fire everyone of these Mexicans but understand they need to be to work every day and work hard like these folks do. Nobody took him up on it.
