Interesting index. It's a pretty good indicator. However, I'd have to say that with Obama's Presidency, it's already doomed if we go by that index. It is already baked into the cards that his Presidency will be plagued by high inflation. Even if he manages to kick start the economy and increase employment at a good clip, we're going to see some heady inflation.

In fact, I think the next few Presidents will see a steady rise in the average misery index until either we grow our way out of the significance of our debt, or we pay a good chunk back. So at this point, Democrat or Republican in office doesn't matter. It's already baked into the cards.

I'll judge Obama more on whether we've stabilized employment, see a return to decent stock market returns, and whether we've been able to incubate the renewable energy industry sufficiently to get the key technologies to grid-parity and electric cars firmly entrenched in our portfolio of vehicles on the road. Those are how I will measure success. Also, if we can restructure the tax burden to more closely resemble that of the 90's, I'll count that as a success as well.
