That is interesting about the change in yellow light time. I have not observed that issue.

The rear end problem is a matter of convincing people to stop running red lights. A major source of accidents here is cars getting T-boned by someone running the red light. Those are more dangerous than rear enders. I am a target to be rear ended because I don't run red lights and most times don't even enter the intersection on yellow. In other words I follow the law.

It will take a long time to educate people. I am amazed at the number of people who run red lights. Sometimes they go past me when I am stopped in order to get across before before the traffic from the other side starts. When I am first in line at at red light I have learned to look both ways when the light turns green to see who is going to run the light.

Here in the backwards state of Oklahoma we were the first place in the world to automate our turnpikes with the PikePass. For the first year or so people who did not have them bitched about it and they complained when they got a ticket for running the toll booth without a PikePass. But now everyone accepts them and very few of the toll booths are even manned any more. We could do that because our Turnpike Commission is not controlled by the Toll Booth Union<ggg>.

I am sure the red light cameras will take some time to be accepted. But, with the coming depression, cutting costs and increasing revenue will be increasingly important for local governments, so the odds are good that they will get adopted more as times get worse.

Blessings,

JRH
