Dave--

<<Obviously this is shooting in the dark, but is there a chance that a or several mergers can create another major semi cap company??>>

I really thought that AMAT was going to acquire someone sometine as the shareprice went over $100 simply because NVLS and LRCX are cheap (both valued under $2 Billion by Wall Street). AMAT won't go after NVLS--after recent lawsuits etc, alot of bad blood there. LRCX+NVLS, well that is something I havent thought about as far as synergies. AMAT would still be 2 to 2« times the size of a combined LRCX+NVLS though. But, as for AMAT themselves buying someone now, they won't. AMAT has lost almost $8 billion worth of it's own currency in this latest downdraft, and thus is in no position to buy anyone.

AMAT still the market leader, by some length too I might add.
